Flashback Friday

My primary school's song included the phrase "alma mater". Which, to a five (5) or six (6) year old means absolutely nothing. Even though the teachers explained what it meant, the phrase only has significance when one is a hard backed adult. (Which is a good thing.)

As it seems, children have ways of making sense where there appears to be none. So the phrase "alma mater" was replaced by any other word which rhymed with it, and in some cases did not rhyme at all. For example, "alma mater" became:

• alligator
• see you later, and a personal favourite of mine,
• mashed potater (potato)

I have no idea how the teachers managed to overlooked (or not hear) this destruction of the school song. The little kids in my year came and found this practice in existence. So, in a sense; it was a school tradition.

• 17 Again - I don't intend to watch this

• Wolverine - loved it
  
• Star Trek - loved it
• State of play
• And some other stuff

It is Crop Over Time Again

Yes folks it is Crop Over time again in Bim (Barbados).

This means a few things:
• Turn your radio up. Way up.
• Drag your dancing shoes from under the bed.
• Pick a costume, that is, if you are jumping in a costume band.
• Get your gear ready for all the crop over events you will be going to.
• Decide which calypso tent you want to visit. Hey, visit them all...the artists need our support.
• Call your friends and plan a crop over party (or not).
